Mark Ruffalo is set to star alongside Emma Stone in “The Favourite” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos’ next feature “Poor Things” at Searchlight Pictures.
Based on the book by Scottish author Alasdair Gray, the story is a re-imagining of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”. In this take, the ‘monster’ is a beautiful, volatile erotomaniac named Bella Baxter (Stone) who is revived from a suicidal drowning (to escape an abusive husband) with the mental faculties of a child. Things get far stranger from there.
Tony McNamara (“The Favourite”) will adapt the novel and Stone will produce with Ali Herting, Dave McCary, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe. Filming will begin later this year.
