Actor Mark Hamill has confirmed that he is officially done playing his character of Luke Skywalker in the franchise.
The actor first took on the role for 1977’s “Star Wars” and played the character across the original trilogy. He then reprised it on screen across the sequel trilogy with his character a Force Ghost by the end.
He also lent his likeness to a younger variation of the character to be used in both “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”. However that would appear to be that.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Hamill says he’s no interest in going any further:
“I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called ‘Star Wars’ ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made. We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”
He also joked that when he disappeared in ‘Last Jedi’, he “left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked force ghost.”
The comments come as “The Mandalorian and Grogu” and “Star Wars: Starfighter” are both on the way and will hit cinemas in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
