Marisa Abela Joins “Highlander” Remake

HBO

Marisa Abela is set to join Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe in the “Highlander” reboot at Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists.

Abela came to notice playing Amy Winehouse in the biopic of the late singer “Back to Black”. She is coming off a BAFTA TV Award win for her performance in the third season of HBO’s “Industry,” and had a strong turn in Steven Soderbergh’s “Black Bag” earlier this year.

The original film starred Christopher Lambert and centered on a group of immortals who battle each other in sword fights throughout the ages.

Cavill is expected to take the lead role of Connor MacLeod with Crowe playing a character akin to Sean Connery’s Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez from the original 1986 film.

“John Wick” director Chad Stahelski will direct the remake, which has a script by Michael Finch (“John Wick: Chapter 4”). Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce the new film.

The movie has been long in the works but the recent rise in casting suggets things are finally moving forward.
