Right now with the success of “Barbie,” she’s one of the biggest names in Hollywood. However, it turns out Australian actress Margot Robbie was also almost a part of Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” franchise.
Robbie reportedly auditioned for a role in “American Horror Story: Asylum,” the second season of Murphy’s FX anthology series which itself boosted actors like Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters into stardom as well as revived Jessica Lange’s career.
Recently speaking with Backstage (via Indiewire), casting director Eric Dawson revealed that Robbie auditioned for an undisclosed role and gave one of his “favorite” performances for a role she eventually wasn’t cast in.
Dawson, who has served as casting director on a bunch of Murphy’s shows from “Glee” to “Dahmer,” says:
“Margot has a lot of ‘it’ factors. That’s the tough thing for casting directors who aren’t in the room [anymore] with actors. Margot is probably one of my favorite auditions of all time, and it was right before she broke out. She was such a star.
It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room. Even though she didn’t get that role, that was one of those things as a casting director where you go: This is a star, what do we do with her?
Immediately, though, she was out of our realm of possibility of hiring. But that’s really the fun part of casting, is seeing the people whose careers are just rising.”
At the time, Robbie had left her stint on Australia’s “Neighbours” and landed the short-lived series “Pan Am”. Within two years she would land her breakout role in Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” which released in 2013.
A new installment of “American Horror Story,” the twelfth overall, is set to premiere September 20th with Emma Roberts, Cara Delevingne, and Kim Kardashian starring.
