Mann Keen To Film “Heat” Prequel & Sequel

Filmmaker Michael Mann has previously teased the release of an upcoming novel that will serve as a prequel to his acclaimed 1995 crime thriller “Heat”.

Now, speaking to Deadline, Mann has updated progress on the novel and says he’s keen to develop a screen adaptation of it and more: “We’re on it, and I’m putting time into that and a screenplay I can’t tell you about. But I absolutely want to make a movie of the ‘Heat’ prequel, and a sequel.”

Love and appreciation of Mann’s crime drama has only grown with time, DH’s own Blake Howard starting the famed One Heat Minute podcast which spends time exploring every single minute of the film with the help of guest critics and had Mann guest starring on the final episode.

Mann was in the midst of filming the pilot episode of his HBO Max series “Tokyo Vice” when the pandemic shutdown took place. Since then he’s been getting back into some great classic films including “Asphalt Jungle,” “Out of the Past,” and “The Phantom of Liberty” along with shows like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “My Brilliant Friend” and “Ozark”.
