“Mankind,” “Right Stuff,” “Phineas” Promo Trailers

A couple of key TV promo trailers have been released following their Comic-Con@Home panels this weekend including two shows offering wildly different takes on the American space program of the 20th century.

First up, the Disney+ original scripted series adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s “The Right Stuff” has released a first look clip. The eight-episode scripted series is a non-fiction account of the early days of the U.S. space program and aims to take a look at “what would become America’s first ‘reality show’ as ambitious astronauts and their families become instant celebrities in a competition that could kill them or make them immortal.”

The series stars Patrick J. Adams as Major John Glenn, Jake McDorman as Lieutenant Commander Alan Shepard, Colin O’Donoghue as Captain Gordon Cooper, Michael Trotter as Gus Grissom; James Lafferty as Scott Carpenter and more. Chris Long (“The Americans”) directed and executive produces.

Next comes the first trailer for the Apple TV+ alternate-history sci-fi drama “For All Mankind”. “Outlander” showrunner Ronald D. Moore is behind the series which explores an alternate timeline where the Soviet Union got to the Moon earlier than the United States, and the space race never ended.

For the second season, there’s a time jump to the 1980s as lunar base astronauts arm themselves for a conflict. Eight of the ten episodes of the season were shot before production was shut down by the pandemic.

Finally comes a new promo for the Disney+ animated movie “Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe,” one featuring the song “Such A Beautiful Day” performed by Ashley Tisdale.

The adventure story tracks stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb as they set out across the galaxy to rescue their older sister Candace, who after being abducted by aliens, finds utopia in a far-off planet, free of pesky little brothers. The film will premiere on Disney+ on Friday, August 28th.
