“Manifest” creator Jeff Rake says that despite the cancellation of NBC mystery drama series, and its subsequent failure to be picked up by a streaming service, he hasn’t given up hope.
Speaking with EW, the creator and showrunner explains that the recent major success of the show’s first two seasons on Netflix has seen him urge Warner Bros. Television to continue conversations with Netflix or another streaming platform.
He adds that he’s moved away from a plan of finding a home for three more seasons and instead is hoping a platform will bankroll a feature or a two-hour movie finale (ala “Timeless,” “Sense 8,” “Deadwood”) that consolidate the back half of the series into a much more streamlined one-off affair.
Said film would wrap up the third season cliffhanger and ultimately end the story of what happened to the passengers of Montego Air Flight 828. He adds he would only require a “modest budget” for such a film.
Finally he says that: “It could be a year, and full disclosure, it may never happen! But I’m not going to stop trying.” While Netflix has the first two seasons, Hulu currently has the third.
