Mangold In Talks To Helm “Indiana Jones 5”

After helming all four previous films, Steven Spielberg is surprisingly stepping back as director of the next “Indiana Jones” movie.

While a deal hasn’t closed, sources indicate “Logan” and “Ford v Ferrari” director James Mangold is in talks to take over the director’s chair on the film with Spielberg staying onboard as “a hands-on producer”.

Reportedly the decision to leave was entirely Spielberg who wants to pass the torch to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story. Harrison Ford is still very much on the project and has been speaking about it recently whilst doing “The Call of the Wild” promotion.

With a new director, it’s possible the film will be pushed again from its current July 9th 2021 release date. Spokespeople for Spielberg and Disney declined to comment.

George Lucas, who co-created Indiana Jones with Spielberg, has retired and is not expected to be officially involved with the new film.
