Yesterday came the news that a piece on online fan casting seemed to have come true – Rosario Dawson had joined the cast of the second season of “The Mandalorian” in the role of Ahsoka Tano.
Ahsoka was introduced in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated series as Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi apprentice and returned as a major supporting player in “Star Wars Rebels,” but until now has not had the live-action treatment.
Today, not only has THR confirmed the news but they indicate that Dawson’s role could lead to a spinoff series. Dawson will not be a series regular in the new season, but her episode could be seen as a potential backdoor pilot for an eventual Ahsoka Tano series.
This wouldn’t be unheard of. Disney+ is already working on a series based on “Rogue One” character Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna).
How Tano will be integrated into “The Mandalorian” isn’t clear but fans are betting it will tie in with the darksaber of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) glimpsed in the first season finale – the saber was previously the property of human female Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren and Ahsoka was last seen heading off with Wren.
