“Mandalorian” Season 3 Already In Development

Pre-production has already begun on a third season of the live-action “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” for the Disney+ streaming service.

Variety broke the story, saying creator Jon Favreau has already been writing for the new season for a while, and Lucasfilm vice president and executive creative director Doug Chiang has been at work creating concepts for several weeks on the third season.

Another source indicates the production design department began working on the new season this week as they require “a huge lead time” which explains why things are moving on this so early.

The second season wrapped production a month ago, finishing off all its filming requirements by early March – right before the coronavirus shelter in place orders came into effect. The second season will debut in October, meaning its likely the third season will premiere late 2021.

“The Mandalorian” was the major launch series for the Disney+ service and was said to have played a significant part in the service acquiring its 50 million subscribers in its first six months.
