“Mandalorian & Grogu” Box-Office Projections Climb

Lucasfilm

At last report the other week, tracking estimates for Disney and Lucasfilm’s “The Mandalorian & Grogu” suggested a worrisome domestic debut of at least $71 million over the Friday-Sunday opening weekend.

While that may be in line with some of the biggest openings of the year, it would be the lowest opening of the Disney “Star Wars” era – behind “Solo: A Star Wars Story” at $84.4 million.

Now, Box-Office Pro is reporting that those projections are now moving upwards thanks to marketing efforts in recent weeks.

Their projections are now indicating that the film is heading for a $90-100 million debut weekend domestically – a number that would take the film past “Solo,” albeit still on the lower end of “Star Wars” openings.

That estimate is in line with the opening for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” which is also expected to debut in the $90-100 million range this coming weekend.

Between them, “Mortal Kombat II” is slated to debut with around a $45-55 million start along with a number of titles like “In the Grey,” “Hokum,” “Obsession” opening in the single-digit millions.
