Amazon MGM Studios is set to release the new live-action “Masters of the Universe” movie next Summer with “Red, White & Royal Blue” and “The Idea of You” star Nicholas Galitzine playing the role of He-Man.
He’ll mark the second big screen He-Man following iconic action star Dolph Lundgren playing the role in the infamous 1987 feature. Lundgren still pops up in films every now and then, so there’s plenty of talk about a possible cameo in the new movie.
Lundgren himself fanned the flames when he mentioned a secret project he was working on in London at the same time the new He-Man was filming in the UK. Now, asked about his involvement by Extra TV, Lundgren would only say: “Maybe, yeah, you will have to check it out when it comes out.”
Various theories have swirled about who he may play, one being He-Man’s ancestor, King D’Vann Grayskull. Either way, Lundgren also shared his thoughts with the outlet on what makes He-Man a different hero from all the costumed superheroes around these days:
“If you think a new He-Man movie makes you feel old, I feel old! I was in it! They’ve been trying to remake the picture for at least 15 years, and I’m glad they’re doing it. There’s a great cast, a great crew. It’s a big budget picture with MGM/Amazon. I think they’re doing a great job.
Prince Adam has a bit more romanticism to the character than other superheroes. Marvel and DC are a little harder-edged. There’s something magical and childlike about it. And even though they’re kind of making an adult picture, there’s something soft and positive about that character.”
The new “Masters of the Universe” also stars Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress and James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley as Adam’s parents, King Randor and Queen Marlena. It opens in cinemas next June.
