Veteran Puerto Rican actor Luis Guzman has officially been tapped for the role of family patriarch Gomez Addams in “Wednesday,” the live-action Addams Family series in the works at Netflix.

Acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton makes his television directorial debut with this new take on the classic comic strip turned sitcom turned 1990s features. Burton also executive produces the eight-episode run.

Guzman, who has appeared across dozens of films and shows over forty years, takes on a role played by John Astin in the original series, Raul Julia in the films, and voiced by Oscar Isaac in the recent animated films.

Guzman will join Jenna Ortega who is set to portray the titular role of Wednesday Addams in what is dubbed a “coming-of-age comedy that will be a sleuthing, supernaturally-infused mystery” as we follow Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy.

The series is created and written by Al Gough and Miles Millar, who are also set as showrunners. Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, and Gail Berman also executive produce.
