The upcoming “Love, Simon” sequel series has been moved. Originally slated for the Disney+ service, the half-hour comedy series will now be a Hulu original and will go by the new title “Love, Victor” and launch in June.
It joins “High Fidelity” in being a show originally planned for Disney+ but shifted to Hulu. ‘Fidelity’ moved because of its coarse language and sexual situations, but ‘Victor’ is expected to be the same tone as the film – a teen show – which has led to the obvious question of where does the Mouse House draw the line between a Disney+ and a Hulu series?
The ten-episode first season has wrapped production with a writers room already commissioned to begin exploring stories for a possible second season.
Michael Cimino (“Annabelle Comes Home”) will play Victor, a new student at Creekwood High School who is on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation.
When it all seems too much, he reaches out to Simon to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school. Nick Robinson, who starred in the movie, will produce and narrate the series.
Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, Isabella Ferreira, Mateo Fernandez, Johnny Sequoyah, Sophia Bush, Bebe Wood, George Sear, Anthony Turpel and Mason Gooding co-star. Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who wrote the film adaptation, will executive produce the series.
