New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation have announced the voice cast and more details about the upcoming anime feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim”.
Kenji Kamiyama directs the film which is set 183 years before those in the original trilogy of films and centers around the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan (voiced by Brian Cox).
The clever and ruthless Dunlending Lord Wulf (Luke Pasqualino) seeks vengeance for the death of his father, forcing Helm and his people to make a last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep.
Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Helm’s daughter Hera (Gaia Wise) must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
Miranda Otto, who starred in Peter Jackson’s trilogy of films, reprises her role as Eowyn who serves as the tale’s narrator. Other voice cast includes Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna and Janine Duvitski.
Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou have penned the screenplay from a script by Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews. Philippa Boyens, who co-wrote the LOTR films, will executive produce while Joseph Chou (“Blade Runner: Black Lotus”) produces.
Oscar winners Alan Lee and Richard Taylor, along with Tolkien illustrator John Howe are also involved. Animation work is underway at Sola Entertainment.
“The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” will be distributed theatrically around the world by Warner Bros. Pictures on April 12th 2024.
