Long-Running “Cops” Series Cancelled

After more than three decades on the air, the reality docu-series “Cops” has been cancelled.

The show’s axing follows Paramount Network’s decision to pull episodes of the show’s thirty-third season in the wake of protests against police brutality that began after the police-involved death of George Floyd on May 25th.

“Cops” began life on Fox in 1989 and ran on the network for twenty-five years. After that it was picked up by Spike TV in 2013 and stayed with the network as it changed into the Paramount Network in 2018.

A network spokesperson says in a statement: “Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return.” Paramount Network has been moving away from unscripted programming thanks to the success of “Yellowstone”.

Old episodes of “Cops” currently air on WGN America and the Pluto TV streaming service, the former’s commitment to the show expires at the end of the month and they have no plan to renew it. The series will remain active on Pluto TV though.

This follows on from A&E also pulling last week’s episodes of” Live PD,” while Discovery’s ID channel’s “Body Cam” is also off the schedule for the foreseeable future.
