Amazon MGM Studios have finally and officially announced the major cast for the live-action “Tomb Raider” series at Amazon Prime Video.

The series, which is expected to feature Lara Croft as an established adventurer and archaeologist and to have a 1990s vibe, was first announced in January 2023. It is rumoured to involve Norse Mythology and Ragnarok, but will not be tied to the “Tomb Raider: Underworld” game that was Norse-themed.

British actress/writer and Emmy winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge created, wrote scripts, and executive produces the series. Chad Hodge is also on board as executive producer and co-showrunner.

As previously reported, Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) will star as Lara Croft. Several names previously reported have also been confirmed, along with their roles.

Sigourney Weaver will play Evelyn Wallis, who is dubbed a “mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents”.

Jason Isaacs will play Atlas de Mornay, Lara’s uncle and the executor of the Croft estate. Martin Bobb-Semple will play Zip, Lara’s right-hand man and tech expert.

Also joining them will be Bill Paterson (“Fleabag”) as Croft family butler Winston, Jack Bannon (“Pennyworth”) as Lara’s personal pilot Gerry, John Heffernan (“Dracula”) as exhausted government official David, and veteran Celia Imrie (“The Diplomat”) as the British Museum’s Head of Advancement Francine.

In addition, Paterson Joseph (“Wonka”) plays senior government official Thomas Warner, Sasha Luss (“Anna”) is a new adversary named Sasha, Juliette Motamed (“We Are Lady Parts”) is a British Museum curator named Georgia, and August Wittgenstein (“Faithless”) is fellow tomb raider Lukas who has a history with Lara.

In a statement, Waller-Bridge says: “Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams.”

Jonathan van Tulleken will serve as director and executive producer on the series, which will begin filming this month.
