Live-action film and stage musical versions of Peter S. Beagle’s 1968 fantasy novel “The Last Unicorn” are reportedly in the works.
CBR.com found the news on a FAQ page on the website for Beagleverse, a recently formed entertainment company founded by Lauren Sands and Michael Heard.
That company will reportedly produce the film, while the stage musical will allegedly involve singer/songwriter Fergie who was linked to a potential adaptation in a report dating back to 2014.
However, there has been no official confirmations or announcements about either project at this time.
The book follows a unicorn who believes that she is the last of her kind in the world and undertakes a quest to find out what happened to the others.
Alan Arkin, Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, Angela Lansbury, and Christopher Lee all lent their voices to a previous adaptation in 1982 by Rankin-Bass Productions and animated by Japanese animation studio Topcraft – the progenitor of Studio Ghibli.
A live-action adaption was rumored back in 2006 but nothing came of it. The author reportedly regained creative control of the property back in March last year.
