A live-action TV series based on the “Judge Dredd” comics is in development at IM Global Television reports EW
Titled “Judge Dredd: Mega City One,” the announcement comes as the character celebrates his 40th anniversary this year. In the comics, Dredd is an officer of the law in a dystopian future where he has the power of judge, jury, and executioner.
The character has previously been adapted to film twice – the 1995 movie with Sylvester Stallone, and 2012’s “Dredd” featuring Karl Urban and penned by “Ex Machina” writer/director Alex Garland. Both weren’t big box-office hits, but the latter was well received and has scored a cult audience over the past few years.
IM Global Television president Mark Stern says in a statement: “This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age. Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it’s a dream come true..”
No word on a potential production of premiere date.
