A Canadian business-to-business site has reportedly posted a listing for an “Aliens” 4K UHD release alongside 4K discs of both “The Abyss” and “True Lies”. No release dates are included on any of these listings.
Dawn of the Discs (via Coming Soon) first posted what is claimed to be screen captures of all three listings which were on Your Entertainment Source (Y.E.S.) which is apparently “Canada’s #1 home entertainment distributor and third party logistics provider of DVD, Blu-ray and 4K-UHD products.”
To date, only three of James Cameron’s films are available on 4K disc – namely “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” and the two “Avatar” films so far. On December 15th, “Titanic” will be coming to the format with that official announcement revealed a few weeks ago.
At a recent screening in Los Angeles, Cameron confirmed “The Abyss” remaster is complete and it will be coming to 4K sometime in the next few months.
“True Lies” has long been rumored for the 4K format, but in terms of “Aliens” there has only been dead silence – even as Ridley Scott’s predecessor “Alien” has been available in 4K for years now.
The report follows on from a tweet the other day from home video scooper TheDiscFather who shared some “Aliens 4K restoration impressions,” saying the blue tint and waxiness of the Blu-ray release is gone leaving a more filmic picture and “colors more accurate to the 35mm”.
