Lionsgate is reportedly aiming to announce its plans for the Starz premium cable network and streaming platform by the end of this summer.
The company indicated last year it was looking at spinning off or selling Starz and has been holding talks with multiple bidders including Roku and Apollo Group.
This week on an earnings call, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer indicated a transaction could close as early as the first quarter of the calendar year 2023.
Starz, acquired for $4.4 billion by Lionsgate in 2016, is behind such shows as “Outlander,” “Spartacus,” “Black Sails,” “American Gods,” “Heels,” “Sweetbitter” and the “Power” franchise.
Starz’s global streaming subscriber base grew by 4.8 million for the quarter, to 24.5 million – up 47% year-on-year.
