Lionsgate and legendary British soccer/football club Manchester United are reportedly teaming up to work on a TV series about the club.
The New York Times reports that the series is in development and plans to tell stories from the decades of Man United’s history, with comparisons being made to “The Crown” for its dynastic-style.
Famous incidents include the 1958 Munich air disaster, the 1968 European Cup-winning team, and Alex Ferguson’s run during the Premier League era.
An agreement has been reached in which Man United will reportedly receive a guaranteed sum in the low multi-million pounds in the event the show is produced and sold.
Future royalties will be shared between United and Lionsgate. It’s also reported that “Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio had conversations about the project.
It comes as A24 and Jack Thorne are working on a series about Liverpool FC and manager Bill Shankly, while Sony and Manchester City reached a content deal with comparisons being made to HBO’s “Succession”.
