Lionsgate has picked up the dark adult comedy thriller “Happytime Murders” says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story is set in a world where humans and puppets co-exist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens.
When the puppet cast of 1980s children’s TV show “The Happytime Gang” begins to get murdered one by one, an alcoholic and disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet takes the case with his former human partner.
Brian Henson, son of “Muppets” legend Jim Henson, directs from a script by Todd Berger. Henson will produce alongside his sister Lisa Henson.
Shooting could kick off as early as January depending upon how soon a star can be locked for the human lead.
