The recent penultimate episode of the sixth season of The BBC’s acclaimed and widely loved police corruption drama “Line of Duty” has just made a bit of ratings history.
The series pulled in 10.9 million in overnight figures on Sunday night – that makes it the most-watched episode of any U.K. television drama since 2008 with a Tennant-era “Doctor Who” Xmas special.
That puts it in front of “Downton Abbey” which hit a high of 10.6 million viewers in 2011, and the Richard Madden-led “Bodyguard” (also created by “Line of Duty” creator Jed Mercurio) which snagged 10.4 million in 2018.
The season comes to a close this coming Sunday. BritBox will be the exclusive home of the new season in the U.S. and Canada, but the speciality streamer has not yet set a date beyond sometime in May.
