Screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson have reportedly exited the upcoming “Star Wars” film project they were attached to.
Above the Line reports that Lindelof and Britt-Gibson turned in a draft of the script in mid-February and parted ways with the project just days later. Lucasfilm is said to have already gotten a new writer on board but aren’t revealing who just yet.
Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains set to helm the film which won’t begin production until February next year ahead of a planned December 19th 2025 release.
Details about the film are expected to be unveiled at Star Wars Celebration in the UK next month with a title and brief synopsis likely, but casting is not expected to be revealed as it’s too early for that yet.
Lindelof recently appeared at SXSW to promote his new “Mrs. Davis” series and cast doubt on his involvement in “Star Wars” going forward.
Even with this setback, the film remains the most likely new “Star Wars” film in the works as others involving Patty Jenkins, Kevin Feige and more have been scrapped in recent weeks as Disney rethinks its release schedule dates.
