Netflix’s legal drama series “The Lincoln Lawyer,” based on the Michael Connelly book series, released the back half of its second season on the streamer today.
The first half of the second season released in early July and quickly took the top spot on Netflix’s Top 10 English-Language TV chart for the following full week of its release..
Coinciding with the second half’s release, TV Insider spoke with co-creator Ted Humphrey about the finale and asked about the potential future for the series which stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as lawyer Mickey Haller.
At present, the series has not received the green light for a third season as yet. If it does, Humphrey says they’re ready for it as they’ve planned for at least four seasons total and could go to a fifth:
“We do have a plan through four seasons so far, and we have plans for more than that if we are so fortunate to be able to continue to do the show.
We have plans for more than that, but we particularly have the next two seasons planned out that hopefully we’ll get a chance to do, and we know what books those will be based on.”
Connelly’s most famous character is Mickey’s half-brother Harry Bosch whom Titus Welliver played across seven seasons on Amazon, becoming one of their most consistently well-rated performers.
Whereas that show would adapt two books each season as concurrent storylines, “The Lincoln Lawyer” sticks to the more traditional one book per season. Connelly has published six Haller books thus far, with a seventh coming in November.
The first book was adapted as the Matthew McConaughey book whereas the Netflix series has adapted the second book “The Brass Verdict” and the fourth book “The Fifth Witness” thus far. Humphrey confirmed a potential third season would adapt the fifth book “The Gods of Guilt”.
