“Edge of Tomorrow” and “The Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman has signed on to direct “Killing Satoshi,” a cryptocurrency-themed conspiracy thriller set to star Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson.

The film explores one of the biggest mysteries of the 21st century – the secret identity of the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. Filming is set to begin in October in London.

Nick Schenk (“Gran Torino,” “The Mule”) penned the film about an elite cabal’s diabolical plans to make sure that the truth never surfaces.

The film aims to weave together “political intrigue, high-tech espionage and a race against time as forces across the globe – spanning governments, Wall Street and Silicon Valley – wage an all-out battle for control.”

Most blockchain analysts estimate Nakamoto’s personal fortune would be worth about $64 billion – making him among the top 20 richest people in the world. However, his coins haven’t moved short of test transactions in the very beginning – his digital fortune remains untouched.

Ryan Kavanaugh, Lawrence Grey and Shane Valdez will produce. Cryptocurrency remains a contentious topic in many circles.

Liman was originally slated to direct the long-gestating underwater thriller “Deeper” starring Tom Cruise but that project has stalled over its massive budget.

Since then, Liman’s name has become attached to a number of projects including the Angelina Jolie-led “The Initiative” and the Stephen King adaptation “The Stand”.
