“Lilo & Stitch” Remake Heads To Disney+

Lilo Stitch Remake Heads To Disney

It’s not just “Lady and the Tramp” it would seem, with more live-action remakes of Disney animated fare skipping theatrical and instead heading direct to the Disney+ streaming service.

The DisInsider reports that a new live-action take on “Lilo & Stitch,” which will be a live-action/CGI hybrid project (ala “Alvin and the Chipmunks”), will start filming in Hawaii this Fall for a 2021 premiere on the service.

Original Stitch voice actor Chris Sanders will reportedly also be returning to once again voice the titular alien, but no other cast is set yet. Mike Van Waes wrote the screenplay while Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce and a search for a director is now underway.

The film joins others in the works for the service. Another is a new “Goonies”-toned Tom Sawyer film with Max Maduka penning the script for that one. The new version will unfold in flashbacks regarding various character’s experiences with Tom who has gone missing.

There’s also the Isla Fisher-led holiday comedy “Godmothered” which just began filming in Boston, and a possible “The Princess Diaries” spin-off.
