Following its over $1 billion theatrical run, Disney’s live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” has been a massive hit on the Disney+ streaming service.
The Wrap reports that the film has had the streamer’s second biggest premiere for a Disney live-action movie, beaten only by “The Little Mermaid”.
In its first five days, the new film has reportedly already pulled in 14.3 million views worldwide, according to internal data from Disney.
The film also helped boost the viewership of the original animated movie and other Lilo & Stitch-related content, with a total of around 670 million hours viewed globally.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the movie has proven popular with audiences and scored high in audience ratings on review aggregation services. It’s also the only Hollywood film to gross over $1 billion worldwide this year so far.
A follow-up is reportedly now in development with Chris Sanders working on the script.
