Matthew Lillard (“Bosch,” “Scooby-Doo”) and Josh Hutcherson (“Future Man,” “The Hunger Games”) are set to star in the film adaptation of the popular video game series “Five Nights at Freddy’s” at Blumhouse Productions and Striker Entertainment.

Emma Tammi (“The Wind”) is directing the film based on the popular game, while Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will work alongside Blumhouse to bring the game’s killer animatronics to life.

The story follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at the family-friendly Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through as the giant animatronic creatures turn deadly and can move when not being looked at.

Tammi co-wrote the script with Seth Cuddeback and the game’s creator Scott Cawthon. Cawthon and Jason Blum will produce. Filming is set to begin in February in New Orleans.

First released in 2014, the game series now consists of nine survival horror video games taking place in locations connected to the original restaurant. Lore for the series is gradually revealed through voice recordings, minigames, and Easter eggs featured throughout.

The franchise has also spawned a novel trilogy, graphic novels and more. A film adaptation has been in the works since 2015, first at Warner Bros. Pictures before jumping over to Blumhouse.
