Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story” character origin spin-off “Lightyear” is reportedly on track to launch to $70-80 million at the domestic box-office this weekend according to early projections.

The film is expected to earn enough to claim the top spot but faces stiff competition from Universal’s “Jurassic World Dominion” which debuted to $145 million last weekend and is expected to drop by around 55-60% for a $60 million second round.

In addition “Top Gun: Maverick” is still out there and going strong with its fourth weekend of release expected to snag a further $25-30 million.

“Lightyear” marks the first Pixar movie to play on the big screen in more than two years but doesn’t come cheap, reportedly coming in at a cost of $200 million to produce before marketing. Reviews have been good but there’s a sizeable contingent of negative and/or mediocre reactions.
