Liefeld: The Time Has Passed For “Deadpool 3”?

Deadpool character co-creator Rob Liefeld recently revealed that he fears that the “Deadpool” are done.

In the wake of the Disney-Fox merger, many have been wondering how the X-Men franchise will be retooled and relaunched under the Disney banner. There’s also been questions regarding how the R-rated “Deadpool” franchise would be impacted by Marvel Studios’ more PG-13 and family friendly fare.

In an interview with Inverse recently, Liefeld says due to Marvels’ packed slate of superhero movies over the next few years, there’s no real room for more “Deadpool” movies and Kevin Feige has “zero” plans for a new entry:

“I don’t know. Here’s what people don’t want to hear, but thank God I’m a realist. I feel like Deadpool, the movies, they’ve set sail. We got two brilliant movies, and we live in a culture that always looks forward because all they’re ever selling us is ‘next, next, next.’ It’s the fever. For me, as the fever calms down, people just need to calm down and realize that Deadpool 1 and 2 were released within two years of each other, 2016 and 2018, and I just can’t… I’m not really that crazy about Marvel’s plan right now.”

Indeed Liefeld seems annoyed regarding the lack of X-Men characters in any new Marvel Studios features. The comments come in contrast to star Ryan Reynolds who said recently: “We’re over at Marvel [Studios] now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kinda crazy. So yeah, we’re working on it.”
