Liam Neeson Is Done With “Star Wars”

Lucasfilm

Liam Neeson made an oh-so-brief return to the “Star Wars” universe last year, making a cameo as the Force Ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn in the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” limited series on the Disney+ service.

Don’t expect his involvement in the franchise to extend any further than that. The actor appeared alongside Paul Rudd on last night’s episode of Andy Cohen’s show “Watch What Happens Live!” (via Variety) and said he’s basically done with the franchise for a specific reason – the franchise is damaging its own brand with too many spin-offs.

Asked if he’d be interested in returning, he said: “No, I’m not. There’s so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars’. It’s diluting it to me, and its taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.”

That’s a change from last year when he told ComicBook.com he would considering playing Qui-Gon Jinn again but only in a movie: “I think so, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so… if it was a film. Yeah, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to TV, I must admit. I just like the big screen, you know?”

Of course “Star Wars” is now known mostly for television as opposed to film where the franchise has been struggling to sort out where to go next.

The comments also come ahead of the third season launch of “The Mandalorian” on March 1st with “Ashoka” and “Skeleton Crew” coming later this year whilst “The Acolyte” and “Andor” Season 2 are due next year.
