Lea Seydoux (“No Time to Die,” “Crimes of the Future”) will star in “Happening” filmmaker Audrey Diwan’s English-language directorial debut “Emmanuelle”.
The new film is inspired by Emmanuelle Arsan’s 1967 novel which was previously adapted into Just Jaeckin’s iconic 1974 film starring Sylvia Kristel in the title role. That film was a global success, spawning numerous sequels and influencing many others.
The story follows a young woman’s journey from the arms of her husband to intimate encounters with the wives of his business associates, to further explorations wherein the philosophical and aesthetic facets of eroticism are expounded – and enacted – to the fullest degree. Diwan and Rebecca Zlotowski will co-write the new take.
The news comes hot on the heels of Seydoux being cast alongside “1917” star George MacKay in Bertrand Bonello’s romantic thriller “The Beast” which will shoot in August.
That film is set between Paris and California in a near-future where emotions become a threat and Seydoux plays a woman who decides to purify her DNA of all strong emotions – only to meet a man she feels a strong bond with.
