Laurence Fishburne Joins New “The Exorcist”

Netflix

Oscar nominee and Emmy and Tony Award winner Laurence Fishburne marks the latest to join the quickly expanding cast of Mike Flanagan’s new “The Exorcist” film which will be produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment at Universal Pictures.

Fisburne marks the fifth addition to the cast following leads Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe along with Diane Lane and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Filming will get underway in New York City shortly.

The film is an all-new story set in “The Exorcist” universe and is not a sequel to 2023’s “The Exorcist: Believer.” Flanagan was given clearance to create whatever story he wanted, and so is both writing and directing.

Plot and character specifics are under wraps. Previously, Flanagan says the plan is to do something that has “never been done within the franchise – something that honours what came before it but isn’t built on nostalgia”. He also aims to make the scariest movie he’s ever made.

David Robinson and Jason Blum produce. The film is set to be released theatrically on Friday, March 12th 2027.

The now 64-year-old Fishburne’s recent works have included “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Megalopolis,” “Transformers One,” “The Amateur” and last year’s fourth and this year’s fifth season of Netflix’s “The Witcher”.
