British actress Lashana Lynch (“Captain Marvel”) will join the cast of the upcoming musical film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s classic “Matilda” at Netflix and Sony Tristar.
The story follows a 5-year-old named Matilda, whose precocious nature and gift for telekinesis help her overcome bullying from her parents, classmates and even the school’s principal Miss Trunchbull.
Lynch is in talks to play Miss Honey, Matilda’s good-natured teacher. The property was previouly adapted into a film in 1996, and a stage production in 2010 with songs by Tim Minchin.
Matthew Warchus, who directed the stage musical, will return to direct the film while original playwright Dennis Kelly will adapt the screenplay.
Luke Kelly, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce. Lynch will soon be seen in Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond in “No Time to Die” due out in April.
