84-year-old Oscar-nominee Frank Langella has exited Mike Flanagan’s new eight-episode limited series adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” at Netflix.
According to Deadline, the “Frost/Nixon” and “The Americans” actor was the subject of an investigation which has been completed. The trade indicates it has been determined Langella had been involved in unacceptable conduct on set.
As a result, the decision has been made to recast Langella’s key role of Roderick Usher in the series which is halfway through production of its eight episodes across a just over four-month shoot. Scenes already filmed by Langella will now be reshot.
Langella had not been scheduled to work this week so filming on the series will continue with scenes not involving the Roderick Usher character until a new actor is cast.
How extensive the reshoots will be isn’t clear – Roderick is said to be a big character, the towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty, but the series boasts a massive ensemble cast.
Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Rahul Kohli, T’NiaMiller, Zach Gilford, Annabeth Gish, Willa Fitzgerald, Samantha Sloyan and Kate Siegel also star in the series.
