“West Side Story” and “American Horror Story” actor and dancer Kyle Allen set to play the role of He-Man in the long in the works live-action “Masters of the Universe” film based on the famed Mattel line.

In addition, the project has landed at Netflix and has already locked in a Summer 2022 production start date. The project had been previously set up at Sony with Noah Centineo attached at the time, and Sony will retain the rights to the film in China.

What the story will be isn’t clear as the various shows and prior film change elements up, but it’s likely the action will either fully or partially take place in the land of Eternia where Prince Adam protects the secrets of Castle Greyskull from the evil Skeletor and his minions.

The Nee brothers (“The Lost City”) will direct from a screenplay they wrote with “Shang-Chi” scribe David Callaham. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, DeVon Franklin and Steve Tisch will produce.

The property remains most famous for its iconic 1980s cartoon series, while a previous 1987 live-action film starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. Netflix is currently home to two animated series based on the property – Kevin Smith’s “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” and a CG-animated series.

Allen most recently appeared onscreen in Steven Spielberg’s reimagining of the classic musical West Side Story. His other credits include the series American Horror Story and The Path, as well as the coming-of-age feature The Map of Tiny Perfect Things. He is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson.
