“Kraken” Bombs At Quiet Holiday Box-Office

DreamWorks Pictures

Whilst the underwhelming start of Disney’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” at the box-office has dominated the film news headlines today, the rest of the box-office was also suffering a rather quiet time.

DC’s “The Flash” film fell to eighth spot in its third weekend of release with a drop of 67% and a haul of just $5 million – meaning its total domestic haul is at $99.2 million.

DreamWorks and Universal’s $70 million-budgeted animated film “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken” bombed in its debut, coming in sixth place with $5.2 million domestically and $7.6 million internationally. It snagged a solid A- CinemaScore from audiences.

Animation proves a bright spot with “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” remaining in second place with $11.6 million in its fifth weekend of release, whilst Pixar’s “Elemental” was third with $11.3 million in its third weekend – both still holding in there well. The former has made $340 million domestically and $600 million worldwide, whilst the latter is $88 million domestic and $186 million worldwide.

Jennifer Lawrence’s R-rated comedy “No Hard Feelings” came in fourth place with $7.5 million – marking a 52% decline in its second weekend. The $45 million budgeted film has made $49 million worldwide so far.

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” closed out the top five with a further $7 million in its fourth weekend – the $200 million budgeted film has $136 million domestically and $381 million worldwide.

Wes Anderson’s indie “Asteroid City” expansion has hit its limit with a $3.8 million turnout in its second ‘wide’ weekend – the film has made $18 million domestically and $29 million worldwide.
