“Tron: Legacy” director Joseph Kosinski appears to be for the idea of additional Daft Punk music for the film being released publicly. Celebrated French electronic duo Daft Punk provided the score for the 2010 sci-fi sequel at Disney Studios, and like any score there were tracks created that didn’t make the film or official soundtrack.
Some like the single “Computerized,” produced by the pair and Jay-Z, are out there. But there’s potentially a gold mine of material that hasn’t yet slipped out. Collider asked Kosinski about it directly, wondering if there was anything left off the various soundtrack albums that Disney has released over the years. He responded:
“I can neither confirm nor deny that there may be some incredible music that we weren’t able to fit in the movie. Someday it would be nice to figure out some way to share that. Disney needs some other revenue streams right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if we try to do that at some point. That’d be great.”
The film’s score is considered a modern classic, but Kosinski says at the time the hiring: “was concerning and required a lot of conversations”. However the duo: “quickly proved that they were up to the task and did a great job.” The music for the film was also written while they were shooting, allowing it to be played on set whilst filming.
