“Mortal Kombat” scribe Greg Russo has been set to write and direct the upcoming live-action series based on the “System Shock” video game franchise for Nightdive Studios and the gaming entertainment streaming service Binge.com.
The original 1994 game, a precursor to franchises such as “Deus Ex” and “BioShock,” has players onboard Citadel Space Station in the year 2072 where an unnamed hacker awakens from a coma.
They are quickly confronted by murderous robots, killer cyborgs, malicious mutants, and a malevolent AI named SHODAN that seeks to control Earth.
Russo will also executive produce alongside Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman. The series will stream exclusively on Binge.com service which has yet to launch and isn’t to be confused with the Australian SVOD service Binge.
Russo is also working on adaptations of the games “Space Invaders” and “Saints Row”.
