Klementieff In DC, Banderas In Marvel Talk

Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures

Two actors have been linked to the two big comic book universes.

First up, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1” star Pom Klementieff has confirmed to Variety she has had conversations with James Gunn to join the DC Universe.

The actress, speaking at the world premiere of the third “Guardians” tonight, tells Variety: “We’re making plans already, but nothing is confirmed yet… I knew about the character [beforehand] and I thought the character was f—- cool.” It’s currently unknown who that character is.

Onto less directly sourced news and a casting rumor has emerged across several entertainment blogs today indicating that Oscar nominee and “Puss in Boots” star Antonio Banderas is up for the role of Galactus in Marvel Studios’ “Fantastic Four” feature.

Reliable Marvel scooper MTTSH appears to have broken the story with numerous niche outlets picking it up, including Comic Book Resources and The DisInsider. However, no major trade magazine or outlet has confirmed the report, so it remains a rumor for now.

A few weeks back came reports indicating the new “Fantastic Four” film will introduce Galactus and the Silver Surfer in a “cosmic-heavy storyline with a 1960s element”. It also follows in the wake of long-standing reports regarding Adam Driver being up for either Doctor Doom or Reed Richards role.

In the comics, Galactus is a planet-devouring force of nature and is depicted as a gigantic humanoid with signature purple armor and helmet. He was previously seen on the big screen in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” albeit only shown in the form of a gigantic spatial cloud.

The character is a cosmic entity who consumes planets to sustain his life force – operating without regard to the morality or judgments of mortal beings. Frequently accompanied by a herald, the character has appeared as both antagonist and protagonist in central and supporting roles in the comics.

Matt Shakman is directing the “Fantastic Four” film from a script by Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer and Josh Friedman. Kevin Feige is producing the feature scheduled for a February 14th 2025 release.
