“Riverdale,” “Songbird” and “I Still Believe” star KJ Apa is set to lead the drama “West Pointer” which will be penned and directed by Rod Lurie (“The Contender,” “The Last Castle”) for Lionsgate.
The story is set against the backdrop of the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point with production set to seek permission to shoot at the legendary campus – a place no production has filmed at since the 1950s.
Apa will play a cocky newcomer who graduated top of his class in high school but now must learn to navigate and compete at a storied place where every student was also the best in class. The property is an adaptation of Jake Tapper’s novel “The Outpost”.
Lurie, who will also produce, knows the subject matter as he himself was a 1984 graduate of West Point. Marc Frydman, Matt Luber, and Mike Weber will also produce.
