SPOILERS AHEAD FOR MARVEL’S “HAWKEYE” & SONY’s “SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME”
Marvel Studios’ “Hawkeye” has wrapped up with the series featuring the return of two Marvel characters – Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova from “Black Widow,” and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin from Marvel TV & Netflix’s “Daredevil” series.
The latter appeared in the back half of the series, primarily in the final episode which was directed by Rhys Thomas (who also helmed the first two). Thomas recently spoke with Variety and was asked if he knew Kingpin was to be the show’s ‘big bad’, and if he knew about Charlie Cox reprising his Matt Murdock role for “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. He says:
“The Kingpin of it all was not on the cusp when I started the show, but I feel like his presence was never far. Like, we were always circling this other ‘big bad guy,’ but there was a moment when a Marvel executive came over and said, ‘You know, this is what we’re gonna do about that.’
As far as a larger plan and a crossover with ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ I did not know that they would do that. They do a wonderful job at Marvel of keeping everybody quite siloed, and I think they do this for your own security.
People seem to sort of assume that there is this room where everything is all mapped out, but, no, they keep you kind of focused on your own show and only give you the information that they feel they need to give.”
The series has earned rave reviews and is tying with “WandaVision” for the best notices of all the Marvel Studios shows thus far. The full series run is now available on the Disney+ service.
