A new rumor suggests the Disney+ service and game publisher Square Enix are teaming to developing a computer-animated TV series based on the popular PlayStation game franchise “Kingdom Hearts”.
The role-playing games combine properties from Square Enix (“Final Fantasy”) and Disney as they follow the Keyblade-wielding Sora who teams with Donald and Goofy and travels across various Disney-inspired worlds to battle the Heartless and rescue his friends.
The Cinema Spot’s Emre Kaya says in a statement on Twitter:
“There is a [Kingdom Hearts] series in the works at Disney+. Disney originally wanted to make it but that didn’t work out, so Square Enix was asked to create a pilot using Unreal Engine. This series is most likely not live-action, but CG animated. They’re currently casting.”
This report was then corroborated by MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad, who tweeted: “Yes, it’s true”. Subsequently the DisInsider’s Skyler Shuler says: “Disney VO actors are expected to reprise their roles (Jim Cummings, Bill Farmer, Tony Anselmo).”
More than 30 million copies of the games have been sold to date.
