One of the most beloved and certainly the most acclaimed family film series of modern times would have to be the “Paddington” films. A big reason for that has been the film’s writer-director Paul King who creatively steered both films.
Now, sadly, King is stepping away from a potential third film in the series. Speaking with Empire Magazine (via Yahoo) recently, King admits he’s handing over marmalade sandwich making honors to somebody else:
“At some point, you just have to stop. It might be time for somebody else to do a twist on it. I’m trying not to do a third bear movie, which is a huge, huge mistake.”
King will remain on board as executive producer and has confirmed the script has already been written. He also suggests the films could go well beyond the third one: “It’s not like Paddington dies at the end. He doesn’t ascend into the sky on a rocket-powered marmalade jar.”
For now, he’s working on a new collaboration with Paddington 2 co-writer Simon Farnaby and a long-gestating Willy Wonka film.
