We’ve had the MCU, the DCEU, and of course the wonderful anacronym that is SPUMC. But are you ready for the Williamsverse?
Following the success of “King Richard,” tennis superstar Serena Williams has revealed that she hopes that the Will Smith-led Best Picture nominee won’t mark the end of cinematic takes on the rise to glory of her and her sister Venus.
Speaking with the Insider, the self-described Marvel fan reportedly says she’d love to build a similar cinematic universe with “King Richard,” which “had a perfect ending with Venus on the tennis court,” serving as the launchpad.
According to the report at least two more films would be on the cards focusing on the separate paths of Venus and Serena who have had distinct experiences in the professional sports world. Serena says there’s certainly enough material for her story:
“Venus goes in her direction and I go in my direction. It’s two completely different stories. I had a rough journey. I didn’t do well and then I did. It’s a lot of drama. It’s a telenovela.
I don’t think I recognize my accomplishments enough. I’m one of those people that’s like, ‘If it’s done, it’s done, I’ve moved on.’ Because if you think about what you’ve done too much, you may stop doing it. And I never want to stop. I’m still trying to reach my goals.”
Both the Williams sisters produced “King Richard” and had a say in how their story was told on the big screen.
