Ketchup Entertainment has acquired the North American rights to Warner Bros. Animation’s sci-fi comedy adventure film “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie”.
The buddy-comedy project marks the first fully animated non-compilation feature film in the Looney Tunes franchise to receive a cinema release – though a date has yet to be confirmed.
The project was originally greenlit for HBO Max in 2021 but was then removed from the slate and poised to be one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s content write-offs.
Production continued and Warner Animation was permitted to shop it elsewhere, helped along by the film’s world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June where it scored a positive reception.
The film begins with a series of antics at the bubblegum factory. In the wake of this, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig discover a secret alien plot to take over the Earth via mind-control.
The duo must work together with Petunia Pig to stop the aliens, while trying to avoid driving each other insane. Pete Browngardt makes his feature directorial debut on the film which was written by Kevin Costello.
Two-time Emmy Award-winner Eric Bauza reprises his voice roles as lifelong friends Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. Candi Milo, Fred Tatasciore, Peter MacNicol, Wayne Knight and Laraine Newman also lend their voices.
