In the wake of the much talked about “The Batman” trailer launch and panel, two more pieces of casting for the Matt Reeves-directed feature have slipped out.
First up, “Dunkirk” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” star Barry Keoghan has joined the cast as Commissioner James Gordon’s first partner, Stanley Merkel. The character was introduced in Frank Miller’s “Batman Year One” comic.
Next, eagle eye viewers going through the trailer have spotted that former “Spooks,” “Whitechapel” and “The Strain” star Rupert Penry-Jones appears to have a role in the film.
The actor previously hasn’t been linked to the project, but his face is seen in a portrait for what appears to be his character’s funeral service – a scene in which a car crashes into proceedings.
How much his role extends beyond being shown as a portrait is unclear, though it’s suggested he may be the victim in the early part of the trailer which would mean he plays Gotham Mayor Don Mitchell Jr. who becomes one of the first victims of Paul Dano’s Riddler.
Filming on the feature will resume in the UK on September 9th.
