90-year-old famed film score composer John Williams is returning to the “Star Wars” franchise – this time he will be composing the theme for the new Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” according to Variety.
Ewan McGregor reprises the role which he played in the prequel trilogy, alongside Hayden Christensen who returns as Darth Vader. The action unfolds ten years after the events of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”.
The news marks a rare instance of Williams doing work for the small screen. He’s already booked later this year for Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans” film and James Mangold’s “Indiana Jones 5”.
The hiring also follows in the wake of Film Music Reporter announcing earlier this week that composer Nicholas Britell (“Cruella,” “Succession”) will handle the score for the “Star Wars: Andor” TV series due later this year.
Williams may not be the only familiar face returning for the “Obi-Wan” series either. A new report at Making Star Wars indicates Jimmy Smits will reprise his role of Bail Organa in the series. The adoptive father of Princess Leia Organa is one of the only people that knows the truth about the Skywalker children and Kenobi’s whereabouts.
Smits previously played the role in the second and third prequel films, the more recent “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and the “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” video game.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” will premiere on the Disney+ service on May 25th 2022.
